El secreto del Albaicín
Granada
Albaicín Tour
The Albaicín is the largest neighborhood in Granada, even larger than it may initially appear. To truly get to know it in depth, it is necessary to divide it into several areas of interest. In this itinerary, we have focused on discovering the Lower Albaicín, and there is no better way to do so than by exploring in depth the secrets hidden among its cármenes (traditional Granada homes) and stately houses.
To understand a home—and even an entire neighborhood—you must begin with the stories and secrets hidden within its walls. As Pedro Soto de Rojas once said, the cármenes are a “Paradise closed to many, gardens open to few.”
These historic homes date back to the Arab period of the city, although over time they were adapted to the needs and interests of their different occupants.
During our visit, we will take a walk through what remains of the former Castilian palatial houses, which still keep secrets hidden behind their walls. From historical events that took place within their rooms and changed the fate of an entire city, to authentic artistic jewels that remain uncatalogued due to disputes over their authorship. Undoubtedly, a different way to discover this part of the Albaicín.
